Changing Jobs While Your Singapore PR Application Is Pending
You have a PR application with ICA and a new job offer. Here is the order of steps that keeps your pass in place, what to tell ICA and why, and which option fits your situation.
Last updated: 26 October 2026
You applied for PR, and now a better job offer has arrived. Do you take it, or does it put your application at risk?
Short answer: nothing we found stops you changing jobs while your PR application is pending, though ICA's PR pages do not cover job changes either way. The risk to avoid is a gap in your pass, where your old Employment Pass (EP) ends before the new one is issued. Also tell ICA about the change yourself. Your new employer's EP filing is made to MOM. This page is for EP holders. If you hold another pass, check MOM's rules for it.
The Safe Order of Steps
For a normal move to a new company, we suggest this order.
- Get the offer in writing. Do not resign yet.
- Your new employer applies for a new EP for you. MOM says to ask the new employer to apply for a new pass. Your application is considered on its merits and under the guidelines at that time.
- Wait for the new EP to be approved and issued. MOM says there is no need to cancel your existing EP before applying for a new one. So you can keep working at your current job while the new application is decided. Waiting before you resign is our practical advice, not a MOM rule. It protects you if the new EP is not approved.
- Hand in your notice and move over. Approval and the issue date can differ, so ask the new employer's HR when your pass will actually be issued before you resign. Your old EP is cancelled and the new one takes its place. Try to keep these dates close together, so there is no day when you hold no valid pass.
- Update ICA about your new job (next section).
For the transfer sequence in more depth, see our guide on what happens when you lose your job on a work pass.
One exception: if you move to a company related to your current employer, MOM handles it differently. The old pass must be cancelled before the related company can get the new one issued. Ask both HR teams which case applies to you.
This page is about changing jobs after you have applied. If you are still planning your application, see timing job changes before you apply.

What to Tell ICA
Your new employer's EP application is made to MOM. It is a separate matter from your PR application with ICA, so do not assume ICA hears about the move from it. Tell ICA yourself, so your file matches your real job.
Use the options in your own MyICA account. MyICA is the e-Service for PR applications submitted from 26 June 2024. We could not confirm ICA's current steps for adding a job change to a pending application, so we do not give a click-by-click route. Check what your account offers, and contact ICA through its website if nothing fits.
Older applications may differ. If you applied before 26 June 2024, we could not confirm the update route. Use ICA's enquiry form or contact page and ask.
Keep the update accurate. A signed offer is not yet employment, so describe it as an offer until you start, and give the real start date. Keep your new employment letter and a recent payslip ready. Our PR application guide says to expect a request for a new employment letter. We did not find an ICA list of required documents for a job change, so treat that as likely, not certain.
Does the New EP Face a Higher Salary Floor?
It can. A job change means your new employer files a new EP application. That is why the date matters. The new EP can also be refused. MOM assesses each application on its merits, so the salary floor is one test, not the only one.
MOM's eligibility page lists these minimum qualifying salaries (checked 22 October 2026):
EP salary floor
| EP application | Most sectors | Financial services |
|---|---|---|
| Now, until the change | S$5,600 (age 23 or below) to S$10,700 (age 45+) | S$6,200 to S$11,800 |
| New applications from 1 January 2027 | S$6,000 to S$11,500 | S$6,600 to S$12,700 |
The amount rises with age, so you need your own age band. Check the full table on MOM's EP eligibility page.
Renewals follow later: the higher floor applies to renewals of passes expiring from 1 January 2028. A job changer does not renew, though. The new employer applies for a new pass, so the new-application row is the one that matters.
If the new employer files before 1 January 2027, the current floor applies. If they file on or after that date, the higher one does. If your offer is close to the floor, ask the employer when they plan to file. For more on the pass itself, see our Employment Pass guide.
Which Option Fits You: Accept Now, Wait, or Delay the Start Date
Use the table to find your situation. These are our suggestions based on the steps above. They are not predictions of how ICA will decide.
Decision guide
| Your situation | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New job pays the same or more, new EP is approved and issued | Accept now | No gap in your pass. Update ICA once you start. |
| New employer has not filed the EP yet | Wait before resigning | MOM says you do not need to cancel first, so keep your current pass until the new one is approved. |
| Offer asks you to resign before the EP decision | Negotiate a later start date | Ask to start after approval. Resigning first can leave you without a pass. |
| New salary is lower | Check the numbers, then decide | Compare it with the EP floor, then read the lower pay section below. |
| New job has a probation period | Accept, but ask about it | Be ready to explain it to ICA if asked. See below. |
| New salary is close to the 2027 floor | Ask when the employer will file | The filing date decides which floor applies. Do not rush or delay the filing because of your PR application. |
| Old EP will be cancelled before the new one is approved | Delay the start date | Read the section on gaps below. |
Lower Pay or a Probation Period
Lower pay. We did not find any ICA rule that sets a salary level for a changed job. We will not guess at how a lower salary is read. What you can do is put the real figures side by side: your old salary, the new salary, and why you are moving. Our guide on salary and Singapore PR explains how salary fits in.
Probation. Our PR guide says to be ready for questions if you are still on probation at the new job. If ICA asks, a letter from your employer confirming your role, start date and probation terms is the straightforward answer. Keep your reasons for the move simple and truthful.
Our PR guide says a job change is not automatically negative, but ICA does not publish how it weighs one, so we cannot promise how yours will be read.

If Your Old EP Is Cancelled Before the New One Is Approved
This is the case to avoid.
MOM says an EP should be cancelled within one week after your last day of notice. Your employer can submit the cancellation up to 14 days early. If your new EP is not approved by then, you have no work pass.
MOM can grant a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) of up to 90 days when an EP is cancelled. That lets you stay in Singapore for a short time. It is a visit pass, not a replacement for a work pass, so do not plan to rely on it between jobs.
We did not find an ICA rule that says a lapsed pass cancels a PR application. The risk we can state is that a gap puts your right to stay and work in Singapore in doubt, and that is a bad position while an application is pending. If it happens, tell ICA. For the job-loss details, see our work pass guide for when you lose your job.
FAQ
Can I change jobs while my PR application is pending? Yes. We found no ICA or MOM rule that forbids it. Your new employer must apply for a new EP, and you should tell ICA.
Do I need to tell ICA? Yes, we recommend it. Use the options in your MyICA account, or ICA's enquiry form. Your new employer's filing is made to MOM, which is a separate matter.
Will I need a new employment letter? ICA may ask for one. We did not find an official document list for a job change, so keep a letter and recent payslip ready.
Will changing jobs delay my application? There is no official figure for this. ICA says applications are processed within 6 months if all required documents are in order, and some take longer. See our guide to PR processing time and how to check your application status.
Does the new EP replace the update to ICA? No. The new EP is a MOM matter and your PR application is with ICA. Do not rely on one to update the other, and make the update to ICA yourself.
Not Sure How Your Switch Fits?
